GE Energy recently announced it has been contracted to provide wind turbine technology for wind power projects at six sites in the Massif Central region of southern France.

According to GE Energy, the projects are jointly owned by Boralex Massif Central and French corporation Perfect Wind, with financing provided by BNP Paribas of Paris. GE Energy and Cegelec Energy Division, a leading prime contractor for wind farm installations in France, will supply installation services through a joint engineering procurement construction (EPC) contract, as well as maintenance services for a period of five years.

GE Energy said the projects, which will comprise 38 of GE's 1.5-megawatt turbines, will provide power to Electricite de France, under 15-year contracts. GE noted that the projects are expected to be completed by the end of the year.

"We are pleased to be supporting the wind energy needs of our French customers," said GE Energy wind segment general manager Robert Gleitz. "GE has more than 9,500 people employed within the country, and our wind energy clients benefit from our local expertise, resources and support."
