GE Energy recently announced that it has received orders and commitments for 2005 totaling 2,400 megawatts (MW) of new wind power worldwide, representing an anticipated increase in revenue of 300 percent over the company's first-year wind operations in 2002.

GE Energy said it expects wind energy revenue to grow to more than $2 billion this year. According to GE Energy, the company has received supply orders calling for 1,100 wind turbines, or a total of 1,650 MW for the U.S., representing 66 percent of the up to 2,500 MW of new capacity that the American Wind Energy Association has forecast for the U.S. this year.

"Wind power continues to be the fastest-growing segment of the global energy industry, and it certainly is a very significant part of the diverse energy solutions portfolio that we offer to our customers around the world," said GE Energy vice president of power generation Mark Little. "As evidenced by GE's recent ecomagination launch, our commitment to cleaner energy solutions, including wind power, is at the forefront of our company's business initiatives."
