0 Comments | Renewable Energy Today, Feb 10, 2006
Tom's of Maine recently announced plans to use 100 percent renewable energy at its manufacturing and fulfillment facility in Sanford, ME.
According to Tom's of Maine, all of the electricity used at the company's 100,000-square-foot building will be generated by the Ainsworth Wind Energy Facility in Nebraska.
"One of our central beliefs is that Tom's of Maine can be financially successful while behaving in a socially responsible and environmentally sensitive manner," said CEO and co-founder Tom Chappell. "Our move to renewable wind energy is another exciting example of how doing what is good for nature and good for communities, turns out to be good for the bottom line as well."

The company noted that it will purchase 130,000 kilowatt-hours of energy monthly, or approximately 1,150 megawatts per year of renewable energy certificates from the wind farm, through the new arrangement. Tom's of Maine worked with Constellation NewEnergy and Clean Air Cool Planet on the effort to bring wind-generated electricity to the Maine facility.
