Biodiesel Industries Recognized for Landfill Gas Recovery

The Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Landfill Methane Outreach Program (LMOP) presented last month during its ninth annual conference the 2005 Project of the Year award to Biodiesel Industries of Greater Dallas-Fort Worth for its renewable biodiesel facility in Denton, TX.

According to the company, the Hybrid Landfill Gas Recovery Project uses 1 million British thermal units of landfill gas to heat water to nearly 200 degrees Fahrenheit. The water is then used to heat vegetable oils and fats to make biodiesel.

"We're essentially using the 'whole buffalo'," said Biodiesel Industries operations manager Charles Fiedler. "We're making renewable fuel with reclaimed energy. We're using all of our available resources to make an American-made fuel that is better for our health, our energy security and our future generations."
