0 Comments | Renewable Energy Today, May 17, 2006
Kansas City Power & Light (KCP&L), a subsidiary of Great Plains Energy, recently announced that Sprint Nextel has signed a contract for the purchase of wind-generated electricity from the power provider's 100.5-megawatt Spearville Wind Energy Facility, which is scheduled to commence service by October 1, 2006.
According to KCP&L, the wind purchase represents more than 75 percent of the average power consumed at Sprint Nextel's Overland Park corporate campus.
"With our first wind project well under way, we are proud to help Sprint Nextel achieve their corporate goals for renewable energy," said KCP&L chief executive officer and president Bill Downey. "Wind generation produces zero emissions and is a significant source of new generation in our Comprehensive Energy Plan."
