Hexagon Composites subsidiary Lincoln Composites, Inc. recently announced it has been awarded a contract to provide Gas Technology Institute (GTI) with 7,000-psi, all-composite, Type IV Tuffshell L hydrogen storage tanks for two hydrogen fueling applications.
According to Lincoln Composites, GTI is currently working on a project with the Department of Energy (DOE) to produce a stationary 50-kilogram-per-day, high-pressure hydrogen fueling station using reformed natural gas and a trailer-mounted portable fueling station for short-term hydrogen vehicle demonstration activities.

"Lincoln Composites' high-pressure hydrogen containers look attractive for hydrogen storage," said GTI hydrogen energy systems director Bill Liss. "For stationary uses, the largest pressure vessels are price competitive with steel and lower than alternative composite storage vessels. For the portable hydrogen station, the combination of price and lightweight make the Lincoln containers attractive."
