Letter from the editor - Mail Call - issue contents
Soldiers Magazine, Dec, 2003 by John E. Suttle
This month's issue of Soldiers marks the third, consecutive holiday season the men and women of America's Army have served their country in the global war on terror. In "On Point," Photo Editor SFC Alberto Betancourt brings you photos of these Soldiers in action around the world. For a look at operations in Iraq, don't miss SGT Robert Woodward's "101 st in Iraq: Chasing the Terrorists" and MSG Bob Haskell's "Guard Soldiers at War." Also, to show how the Army is helping to relieve the stress caused by deployment and combat, Heike Hasenauer brings you "Operation R&R."
Finally, on a personal note, I'd like to thank SMA Jack Tilley for his more than 35 years of service to his nation as he ends his tenure as the 12th sergeant major of the Army. As the 1st Armored Division public affairs officer while Tilley was the command sergeant major, I got to witness him in action on a daily basis. Whether it was the mud of Grafenwohr, the dust of Hohenfels or the mud of Bosnia, Jack Tilley was there taking care of Soldiers. We have been truly fortunate to have him as our senior enlisted Soldier. We are a better Army because of him.
All of us at Soldiers wish you the happiest of holidays.
