Waddesdon Manor

Apollo, May, 2004 by Samson Spanier

It is a year of furniture at Waddesdon Manor, the nineteenth-century mansion in Buckinghamshire commissioned by Ferdinand Rothschild that has become a museum owned by the National Trust and managed by the Rothschild family. New archival research has allowed the curators to recreate the Baron's room (right) as it would have been when Ferdinand lived there.

Moreover, the museum is planning to sell newly made furniture inspired by its outstanding collection of eighteenth century French furniture, APOLLO can reveal. Plans were being finalised at the time of going to press, and an official announcement is expected this month. A craftsman in San Francisco will make the furniture, which will be sold in a shop in Berverly Hills, California, from next year. Prices will start from $10,000.
