Jean Helion
Jean Helion (1904-1987), who spoke fluent English and spent long periods in in Britain and the United States, was a leading figure in the Anglo-Saxon Abstraction debate of the 1930s. Just when the argument was won, he turned to figuration, developing a unique repertoire of mannikins, pumpkins etc. Now being reconsidered in a major retrospective at MOMA, Paris.
