Eclipse plans links to BEA Beehive

Rethink IT, August, 2004

As Sun seeks to coexist with Java technologies from the IBM-dominated open source Eclipse foundation, the group is poised to announce a project based on BEA Systems' Beehive development software.

BEA, Eclipse and a software company called Instantiations have established a project called Pollinate to let Java programmers using Eclipse software to tap into the visual development features of BEA's Beehive.

The plug-in for Eclipse will be released in late summer, with the project to be completed in the second quarter of 2005.

BEA hopes the move will encourage uptake of Beehive, its biggest move into open source.
