VMWare shows off virtualization engine

Rethink IT, Dec, 2004

VMware has offered a preview of its new virtualization engine that allows a single virtual machine to work on up to four processors.

The new release is targeted especially for multicore processors, which are expected from Intel late next year VMware already has a dual-processor version of its server, but many analysts believe the four processor version will help the product keep up with Microsoft's forthcoming Virtual Server 2005.

Virtualization has become a hot topic as leading chipmakers embrace multicore processors to increase power instead of higher clock speeds.
