* Unisys updates mainframe range

Unisys has introduced its new ClearPath Plus Dorado line of mainframes, whose processors boost performance by 50% over previous models, according to the company.

In addition, Unisys introduced a metered pricing arrangement that lets customers quickly tap into more computing power, paying according to how much is consumed.

Following in IBM's footsteps, Unisys is now running Linux on its large servers--the Dorado models can run Linux from Red Hat or Novell on separate Intel processors in the same mainframe cabinet.

Another mainframe rejuvenation effort from Unisys is a service called Application Modernization for either its own or IBM customers. This is a methodology that "enables you to choose the best solution to your immediate business issue and to establish a solid roadmap and methodology for evolving your legacy application portfolio and making it easier to maintain and adapt," says Unisys.
