Smoothies are becoming The newest trend in nutrition. They are an especially smart choice for young people, who need a lot more fresh vegetables and fruits in their diets to maintain health than they are typically getting. Smoothies make sense for the whole family--statistics show that on an average day 41 percent of us eat no fruit at all, 72 percent eat no vitamin C-rich foods, 82 percent eat no cruciferous vegetables, and 84 percent eat no high fiber foods. Smoothies make sense for people on the go because they can be made in minutes. Recipes are grouped by category: Healing Smoothies, Pick-Me-Uppers, Desserts, Weight Loss Helpers, Bodybuilding Smoothies, Healthy Pregnancy Smoothies and New Parent Pick-Me-Uppers, among several categories. An introductory section emphasizes the importance of using fresh juice and provides information about selecting the right juicer. A special section about individual fruits and vegetables includes information about season, preparation and nutritional content. All recipes provide detailed information about calories, protein, carbohydrates, fiber, sugar, fat, vitamins and minerals. Each recipe is preceded by a brief description along with a section called "nutrisip" that highlights its nutritional benefits. The names alone are wonderful. Imagine sipping Orange Coconut Creamsicle-In-a-Glass, Anise Ice, Pineapple Super Kick, Raspberry Ripple, Berry Smoothie and many others. This is a great book that is sure to be a winner among both YAs and adults looking for a way to improve their nutrition and enjoy doing it. Shirley Reis, IMC Dir., Lake Shore M.S., Mequon, WI
