KENNER, Julie. Demons are forever. Read by Laura Hicks. 8 cds. 9.25 hrs. BBC Audiobooks America. 2007 0-7927-4898-4. $79.95. Vinyl; plot, author, reader notes. S A

Narrator Laura Hicks leaves us wanting more at the conclusion of this third installment of the Confessions of a Demon-Hunting Soccer Morn series. Kate's 14-year-old daughter knows about Kate's extracurricular activities and wants in on the action. Meanwhile, Kate is convinced that David Long really is her dead husband Eric. Though plenty of demon-butt kicking goes down in this book, it is very much an internal story and Hicks has the emotional range to make us feel every wrenching moment. From Allie, who wants desperately not to forget her father, to Kate, who shouldn't have to choose between the men she loves, Hicks is there with the pain and anguish that make Eric's death feel new. She's there with the suspicion and doubt when Kate finds out that Eric was hiding much more from her than his mentor training. The story's emotional cliffhanger puts the listener through the wringer. The best kind of ending and the best book in the series to date. Jodi Israel, MLS, Salt Lake City, UT
