Every year, the best entries in the annual Star Trek short story contest are published in the Strange New Worlds series. Aspiring writers must have fewer than three published stories in order to be eligible for the contest and this series. In volume 5, there are a few authors who have appeared in other Strange New Worlds volumes, including the Grand Prize winner who was also in a previous volume. The stories are somewhat uneven but the good ones are very good and this series is always fun to read. Perhaps this volume will provide inspiration to a future Star Trek Strange New Worlds Grand Prize winner. Hugh M. Flick, Jr., Silliman College, Yale Univ., New Haven, CT
