From signing bills to passing laws? - Mundo Latino: news events

Latino Leaders: The National Magazine of the Successful American Latino, August-Sept, 2003

Treasurer Rosario Marin, the highest-ranking Latina in the Bush administration, has resigned her post, and might run for the federal senate as a Republican in 2004, according to political pundits. "After long and thoughtful consideration, my family and I have decided to go back home to California." Marin said in her resignation letter.

Aged 14, she not speak any English when she came to the United States from Mexico.

Marin said, "both God and my parents were wiser than I when they saw fit to bring me to this great country where even unimaginable dreams come true." Twenty-eight years later she was overseeing its money, with her signature appearing on the dollar bill.

And if the pundits are right, she may soon be in the senate.
