Latino Leaders: The National Magazine of the Successful American Latino, August-Sept, 2004 by Wendy Pedrero
The end of summer soon approaches, and as a people we find ourselves reflecting on a year full of challenges and hope. As the end of the year begins, two major events will undoubtedly grab the nation's attention.
August brings the XXVIII Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.
Thousands of American Athletes will compete under the close scrutiny of a global community that has repeatedly questioned our government's actions in regards to foreign policy. To make the U.S. stand tall during these Games will be no small feat for these young athletes, but their dedication and commitment will undoubtedly prevail, and the U.S. will once again walk away victorious.
In our Portrait section we honor the commitment and dedication of the Latino athletes who represent the epitome of strength, perseverance and success and who will carry the torch that burns with their desire for victory and the achievement of the Hispanic-American dream. Their images are as exciting as is their intent to prevail, and we hope that you enjoy them as much as we did. We tip our hats off to our Latino hopefuls and bid them the best of luck in their journey to Athens and to victory.
October brings a whole new different, but also exciting event. This upcoming election the country will decide the fate of our current top leader: President George W. Bush. This time, the Hispanic vote will most likely become a decisive factor on the final outcome. Both presidential candidates are very aware of this and have devised specific strategies to attract that vote. In this issue, we talk to presidential candidate John Kerry and his right-hand man, Terry McAullife, Chairman of the Democratic National Committee.
Representing the Democratic Party's driving force, their agenda is dedicated to ensure that the issues affecting Latinos in the U.S. are effectively addressed, and through exclusive interviews, they talk candidly with Latino Leaders Magazine about what is truly needed in this election campaign in order to achieve success.
There is much to be expected from each of these events, and much will be said about the outcome of both. But the undeniable truth is that they will both leave a permanent print in the history of this nation, and we at Latino Leaders are proud that we are able to go into the core of each of them, so that we can in tur share that extraordinary experience with all of you.
