Cefotetan disodium for injection

Journal of Drugs in Dermatology, Oct, 2007 by Marissa Heller

The FDA recently granted approval to Abraxis Pharmaceutical Products to market cefotetan disodium for injection. This medication, which is the generic equivalent of AstraZeneca's Cefotan[R], has the longest half-life of any first or second generation cephalosporin. Cefotetan is indicated for treating and preventing skin and skin structure infections as well as a number of other infections in other parts of the body. Cefotetan for injection is indicated for preoperative administration prior to clean contaminated or potentially contaminated surgical procedures.

Cefotetan for injection will be marketed in 1 g and 2 g preservative-free vials with latex-free vial stoppers. Adverse effects of cefotetan for injection are similar to those of other cephalosporin antibiotics.
