Cefprozil for uncomplicated skin and skin-structure infections

Journal of Drugs in Dermatology, Feb, 2007 by Marissa Heller

The FDA recently granted approval to Ranbaxy Pharmaceuticals, Inc to manufacture and market Cefprozil tablets USP, 250 mg and 500 mg. This medication is the generic bioequivalent of Bristol Myers Squibb Company's Cefzil tablets, 250 mg and 500 mg. Cefprozil is indicated for treatment of patients with mild to moderate infections caused by susceptible strains of specific microorganisms that cause uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections, in addition to many other nondermatologic infections.

Ranbaxy will likely make Cefprozil available on the market in early 2007.
