Systemic and topical drugs for aging skin

Journal of Drugs in Dermatology, August, 2003 by Michael Kockaert, Martino Neumann

Conclusion

Slowing or reversing the symptoms of aging skin is an increasingly common reason for a patient to consult a dermatologist. Most patients hold out hope that the aging process can be reversed with miraculous topical agents. While there is no 'magic formula', topical treatment in conjunction with adequate use of sunscreens with broad-spectrum activity against both UVB and UVA can significantly reduce and prevent the symptoms of photoaging, and even improve skin lesions with histologic atypia. Combined treatments offer the best results, but therapies should be tailored to each patient based on their individual skin qualities and degree of photodamage.
