Two softcover books in the "Girl Zone" series published by Maple Tree Press offer positive and informative messages for young women and teenagers. "The Girls' Yoga Book: Stretch Your Body, Open Your Mind, & Have Fun!" by Michaela Caldwell (9781897066256, $9.95) introduces the reader to using yoga to revitalize one's body, mind, and mood. Chapters discuss how to create a yoga space, enact basic poses, control one's breathing, improve balance and more. Simple and colorful illustrations make The Girls' Yoga Book an easy-to-use springboard to get started in this physically and mentally fulfilling practice. "Body Talk: The Straight Facts on Fitness, Nutrition & Feeling Great About Yourself!" by Ann Douglas & Julie Douglas (9781897066614, $9.95) takes the reader on a voyage to learn tips, tricks, and techniques for taking care of one's body. From learning how fickle and unreliable standards of beauty are (and have been throughout history), to not putting too much emphasis on artificial and commercial cosmetics, to advice for including more activity in one's life and eating a balanced nutritional diet, Body Talk is a welcome antidote to the unhealthy, unrealistic, and self-esteem destroying messages advertising constantly bombards young women with. Both titles are enthusiastically recommended for children's library collections and as giftbooks for girls.
