These excellent publications provide exciting reprints of solid references. Wolfgang Bruhn and Max Tilke's A Pictorial History Of Costume From Ancient Times To The 19th Century (0486435423, $26.95) republishes a 1955 London classic which still provides an important reference for costume designers and fashion students today. All levels of society are included, while the history begins in ancient Egypt and moves into the late 19th century. Illustrations of wearing apparel are precisely detailed. R. Turner Wilcox's Five Centuries Of American Costume (0486436101, $12.95) provides the first comprehensive survey of the evolution of apparel in the Americas, and republishes a 1963 classic including its over-four hundred black and white illustrations. Katherine M. Ball's Animal Motifs In Asian Art (0486433-382, $29.95) provides an excellent republication of the original 1927 edition. Katherine Ball's sourcebook packs in examples from hundreds of old woodcuts, paintings, tapestries, fabrics and more, surveying the creatures of symbolic meaning in Asian art and culture. A 'must' for any in-depth library of Asian studies.
