One of the many early Christian millennial movements was known as Montanism. Known for its belief in total equality of the sexes and reliance on prophetic utterings by its members, Montanism was centered for four hundred years in the towns of Pepouza and Tymion, now in modern western Turkey. Tabbernee (Pillips Theological Seminary, Tulsa OK) and Lampe (University of Heidelberg) report here on the archaeological excavations of the sites of the towns. They use archaeology, epigraphy, and the writings of early Christian authors on the sect to form a better image of the lives and beliefs of the Montanists. The book, written in parallel pages in English, German and Turkish, includes many color photos of the finds and sites and two fold out maps of the towns marked with archaeological grids.
