A veteran scholar of indigenous peoples of the Andes, Hyland presents a new edition of Book II in the five-volume Memorias historiales by the 17th-century Spanish monk Fernando, a collection of indigenous South American myths and history unique among those collected in Peru. Her edition is based on the 1644 edition now at the University of Seville, and corrects alterations and errors in previous ones. She also provides extensive information about the author, related works, linguistic features of Spanish and Quechua, and other matters.
