Systematic research into venture capital markets is now about 25 years old. In this collection, Landstrom (business administration, Lund U., Sweden) presents 17 papers with the aim of summarizing and synthesizing this research, as well as pointing towards future directions. The collection unapologetically reflects some of the biases of the field. It focuses mostly on the supply side of the market (the investor perspective). It also leans towards managerial aspects, but does cover more aggregated discussions concerning the development of the market, regional aspects of venture capital, and policy implications. Finally, it reflects the bias towards the US context and model of venture capital, although it does include authors from different parts of the world who consider venture capital as a global market. Three submarkets are examined over the course of the text: institutional, corporate, and informal venture capital.
