Monograph 59 from the Cotsen Institute of Archaeology at UCLA, this study focuses on five Moche tombs excavated at Dos Cabezas on the north coast of Peru from 1997 to 2000. Donnan (anthropology, UCLA) notes that the tombs were unusual not only for the wealth of objects they contained but also because it is known how the tombs were constructed, how they related to each other temporally and spatially, and what individuals they contained, providing an opportunity to gain a greater understanding and appreciation of the ancient Peruvian civilization. Each tomb receives an individual chapter with generous illustrations peppering the text, and additional sections are offered on architectural modifications, vertebrate faunal remains, and observations and conclusions.
