Emphasizing the themes of economic development, transition, and community resilience, the authors (all of the Centre for Sustainable Community Development at Simon Fraser U., Canada) report on a research project on the impact of locally-based community economic development (CED) initiatives in the context of four forest-based communities in the Canadian province of British Columbia. The project gathered its data through community profiles, surveys, document analysis, community workshops, and participant observation. Scattered throughout the book are side-boxes containing "community voice" contributions reflecting on individual CED experiences. Distributed in the US by the U. of Washington Press.
