Each of the ten chapters in this book presents a guiding principle for paying for college along with tips from financial aid professionals and stories about students counseled by the authors. Some of the principles are familiar (e.g., good students have good choices and saving is important). Among the strategies that families might not have considered: apply to a broad group of colleges to create more opportunities; don't let costs limit options (a majority of students don't pay full tuition); estimate aid "standing" before visiting colleges and meet with an aid counselor during each visit; and carefully evaluate aid packages from each college before making a decision.
