Boschma (nursing, U. of British Columbia) uses her personal experience with The Faculty of Nursing at the University of Calgary to good purpose as she describes how this academic nursing unit has faced the combined challenges of changes in health care, the university system, and a society that views nursing in an entirely different way from 35 years ago. Working chronologically, she describes how the unit came to be involved in meeting demand for more and better nurses, how it expanded in providing education, research and service, and how it continues to meet social and health needs.
