Despite their relatively low recovery rates, increased demand has made fractured oil reservoirs in the Middle East, North and South America and North Africa attractive. However, yields can improve, given that certain geophysical characteristics that may lead to better accessibility. This collection of 17 papers includes outcrop studies and case studies along with numerical and analog modeling studies and reviews of recent findings in the geophysics of fractured reservoirs. Topics include scaling of fracture compliance, using surveys to bridge the scale gap between well and seismic data, and using acoustic and wave velocity measurements to gauge fractures in limestone. Case studies come from the UK, the Norwegian North Sea, Oman and Canada, and outcrop studies come from Iran and the US. The modeling studies include computational and physical models. Distributed in the US by American Assn. Of Petroleum Geologists.
