Foundations in diagnostic pathology

RC711

This reference for students of pulmonary pathology covers both common and rare neoplastic and non-neoplastic diseases of the lung and pleura, focusing on diagnosis with correlations to clinical and radiographic characteristics. Information about recent molecular genetic advances and applications of immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, ultrastructural analysis, and clinical laboratory testing is presented to supplement the clinical, radiological, and morphological information that forms the basis for disease diagnosis, classification, prognosis, and treatment. The first three chapters focus on normal pulmonary anatomy and tissue artifacts, the uses of the lung biopsy, and a pattern-based approach to the diagnosis of pulmonary diseases. The remaining chapters examine congenital/pediatric, vascular, infectious, idiopathic, and neoplastic conditions. Separate chapters are also provided on fibroinflammatory and neoplastic diseases of the pleura. The reader-friendly layout includes tables, boxes, and color photomicrographs on nearly every page. Zander is professor and chair of pathology at Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine. Farver is director of pulmonary pathology at the Cleveland Clinic.
