Dashek presents a textbook for upper-level undergraduate courses providing a biological, chemical introduction to environmental sciences; the text is not suited to environmental science courses focusing on earth science, physical science or chemistry. The book assumes the student has taken one semester of biology and chemistry. Introductory chapters on scopes of ecology and environmental science are followed by chapters on global warming, energy, pollution, speciation and biodiversity, population growth, and environmental law. Dashek taught at Mary Baldwin College, Richmond/Staunton, Virginia, prior to retiring; McMillan (mathematics and natural science, Brewton Parker College, Mount Vernon, Georgia) serves as editor of the text. Distributed in the U.S. by Enfield.
