X-ray computed tomography (CT) is a noninvasive and nondestructive imaging method used in medical and materials applications. MicroCT systems are high-resolution versions of the same equipment. This book offers an introduction to the technology, illustrated with b&w and color images, along with application examples in the physical sciences, engineering, and the life sciences. The first part of the book describes experimental methods, data analysis, and visualization approaches. Next, microCT applications are detailed in areas including porous solids, microstructural evolution, soft tissue studies, and indirect analysis. With material on fundamentals of X-ray generation and instrumentation, the book will allow those with no background in X- ray imaging to gain an appreciation for the literature and to design their own microCT studies. Stock is affiliated with Northwestern University.
