General officer announcement; Department of Defense news release

Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates announced today that the president has made the following nomination: Air Force Maj. Gen. John T. Sheridan has been nominated for appointment to the rank of lieutenant general with assignment as commander, Space and Missile Systems Center, Air Force Space Command, Los Angeles Air Force Base, Calif.
Sheridan is currently serving as deputy director, National Reconnaissance Office, and program executive officer and system program director for space radar, Chantilly, Va.
