70th IW sponsors motorcycle safety fair

Spokesman Magazine, June, 2005 by Marilyn C. Holliday

FORT GEORGE G. MEADE, Md. -- The 70th Intelligence Wing sponsored its first motorcycle safety fair June 2 in the 9800 area of Fort Meade.

Dozens of motorcycles, all types of rider personal protective gear, including helmets, riding pants and jackets, gloves, boots, and reflective vests were all on display. Videos and safety information from the Motorcycle Safety Foundation and the Maryland Highway Safety Office were also available.

"The wing's motorcycle program is about riders taking care of riders," Lt. Col. Mike Canna, one of the event organizers, said. "It's about having the experienced riders mentor the younger riders to try and keep them out of trouble on the road. Events like this bring riders from every experience level and every squadron together to learn from each other and talk about motorcycling and motorcycle safety."

About 250 people attended the event to view the displays and talk to the riders. The purpose of the event was to highlight motorcycle safety as the wing enters the "101 Critical Days of Summer."
