Midsummer night's dream: stamping Shakespearean portraits on vellum

Expression, Nov-Dec, 2004 by Jan Lynick

Creativity, to me, is about stretching oneself, a challenge if you will, with a space waiting to be filled. I first saw the chargers, the gold, then silver, so vibrant, waiting on a shelf. I knew the slippery surface would be tricky to stamp on, so I thought of sponging on paint with a sea sponge for certain areas. The tray was found later but the technique is the same.

INSTRUCTIONS

Starting with a moist sea sponge and three to five acrylic paints, sponge on each color. Let each color dry before adding the next. I stamped Shakespearean Heroines (The Stampsmith) on Matte Kote paper using Black Memories ink. Find a copy machine and feed your colored vellum in one at a time. Cut your images to fit on your charger or tray and when you are satisfied, run the vellum through the Xyron and back with a complementary card stock. Run through the Xyron again and mount on mat board or foam core. I layout the various collage stamps and position them around the Shakespearean Women. Fill in the collage areas first, and then mount your vellum images with Bond 527 Multi-Purpose Cement.
