Indian Budget Airlines See Revenue Boost From Cargo. Indian budget airlines plan to carry express cargo as they look at alternative revenue streams to boost their financials amid falling passenger fares. Low-cost airlines such as Air Deccan, SpiceJet and GoAir expect package and document shipments to make up at least 10 percent of their revenue in their first full year of cargo operations. Budget carrier Virgin Blue has around a one-third market share within Australia against Qantas and its discount airline Jetstar. There is some concern that Qantas might shift more routes on to Jetstar to cut costs. It has been cutting costs by shifting international routes onto Jetstar, whose cost base is 40 percent lower than its parent. Dec 15, 2006

Australia's Virgin Blue planning for U.S. flights. Australia's No. 2 airline, Virgin Blue, bumped up its profit predictions by 40% Tuesday after receiving permission to begin serving the U.S. market. The airline's board said market conditions and the carrier's readiness were both favorable and that, barring any regulatory problems, it hoped to launch international operations by late 2008.
