Japan is testing the world's fastest train - a 350 kph bullet. The Fastech has had its first test run and logged a seriously quick 366 kph. Once testing is complete the new bullet train will serve Tokyo from across the country. The rail company is also looking to reduce the noise and enhance the comfort levels of the carriages. Other bullet train lines and the French national railway SNCF are currently operating at just 300 kph - considerably faster than in the U.K. Mar 5, 2006

Fairmont Hotels and Resorts

Fairmont Hotels and Resorts is paving the way for environmental business by powering its check-in computers by wind energy. The North America hotel group has purchased Eco-Logo wind power for 249 check-in computers, which will result in a greenhouse gas reduction of almost 100 tons over the next year. Hilton Chicago O'Hare

Hotels hop on board with flight check-in feature. Some hotels are easing the transition from hotel to plane with special programs for their most loyal customers. At the Hilton Chicago O'Hare, for instance, guests can check in for flights using kiosks in the hotel lobby. Other hotel chains are also rolling out flight check-in services. Mar 1, 2006

Cathay Pacific parent Swire is planning a chain of boutique hotels in Europe and Asia. Swire Properties has one boutique hotel under construction in Guangzhou and is understood to be exploring sites elsewhere in Asia and throughout Europe.
