Anderson assures pilots' union Delta will stay independent. Incoming Delta Air Lines CEO Richard Anderson expects the carrier to remain independent, according to MEC pilots' union chairman Lee Moak. "While industry consolidation has been predicted for some time and may eventually take place, Mr. Anderson assured me that he was not selected as CEO to facilitate a merger between Delta and Northwest or any other airline," Moak wrote in a letter to Delta's pilots. Comparing Delta's retiring and incoming CEOs Delta Air Lines employees hailed retiring CEO Gerald Grinstein as a hero after the company emerged from bankruptcy independent and strong. Incoming CEO Richard Anderson will take the helm of a recovering airline. Aug 24, 2007

It won't be easy for Anderson to replace Delta's retiring hero. Delta Air Lines employees hailed retiring CEO Gerald Grinstein as a hero after the company successfully held off a hostile takeover by rival carrier US Airways and emerged from bankruptcy independent and strong. The millions of dollars he passed up and instead directed to employee causes didn't hurt, either. Incoming CEO Richard Anderson will take the helm of a recovering airline and will lead employees who expect to share in the benefits of its recovery. Aug 24, 2007

Richard Anderson, Delta Air Lines newly appointed CEO, moved to quash rumors about a possible merger with his former employer, Northwest. "Stability and security, we want to control our own destiny and we want our employees to have stability and to have prosperity in their careers at Delta," he said. Competition with other airlines will be a part of that effort. "We will be ferocious competitors," Anderson said. Aug 23, 2007

Air traffic control system must be revamped, says Anderson: In a CNBC video, new Delta CEO Richard Anderson talks about the need for airspace modernization. "The air traffic control system must be revamped, both the finance system of the air traffic control system and the way we operate that system," he said. Aug 22, 2007

Delta CEO choice renews speculation about merger possibilities: Delta's new CEO, Richard Anderson, spent 14 years at Northwest, where he also served as CEO. Industry observers speculate that the two carriers might at some point consider a merger because their service routes complement each other. Anderson said that doesn't mean a plan exists to merge the two airlines. Aug 22, 2007

Delta Air Lines today announced that former Northwest Airlines CEO Richard Anderson will take the CEO post when Gerald Grinstein retires on Sept. 1. The company also appointed chief financial officer Ed Bastian to president and CFO. Aug 21, 2007

Capacity grew 3.2% to 14.22 billion ASMs on a 2.1% domestic decline and a 15.5% international gain. System load factor rose 1.4 points to 86.8%, the highest single-month load factor in the carrier's history. Domestic load factor was up 2.2 points to 87.9% and international 0.1 point to 85%.
