GDSs Enable Unbundling Of Air Pricing The four major global distribution systems, Amadeus, Galileo, Sabre and Worldspan, are in the midst of enabling airfare unbundling and other travel merchandising options. Such carriers as Air Canada, Ryanair and Spirit Airlines have initiated such pricing models, breaking out from total airfare fees for services like checked baggage, assigned seating and frequent flyer points. However, those carriers have enabled such pricing options solely through their Web sites. Jul 23, 2007

Amadeus and Worldspan this month aligned with BookingBuilder Technologies, which supplements global distribution system content with Web-only fares, in separate partnerships to offer preferred pricing to subscribers as well as opportunities for tighter integration between systems. Meanwhile, Southwest Airlines and BookingBuilder next month intend to launch a bridge between the airline's Swabiz booking portal and online corporate booking tools. Jul 23, 2007

Amadeus said Qantas became the first airline to roll out the Amadeus-developed "next generation load control system" known as Altea Departure Control. Qantas CIO John Willett said the new system receives data direct from the airline's load planning, freight, fueling and airport information systems, removing existing manual processes. Jul 24, 2007
