Emissions trading scheme sparks debate between U.S., U.K.. U.K. officials are defending a plan by the EU to include airlines in emissions trading regulations, a stance that trade associations and the American government oppose. The Air Transport Association's Nancy Young says the cost of emissions trades could keep airlines from investing in cleaner technologies, which would better benefit the climate in the long run. Air France

Air France supplies satellite views of flights. Carrier partners with European Space Agency, says it is first to offer service. Air France's Paris-Mumbai route is the one of the first four on which the airline is offering passengers an inflight entertainment program showing medium- resolution satellite images of the terrain over which the aircraft is flying, points of geographic interest en route, and high-resolution images of the departure and destination cities. The images passengers see of Mumbai is much higher-resolution than this low-resolution image. Sep 11, 2007

Air France KLM

KLM has confirmed that it has completed its transfer of all ticketing to electronic format (e-ticket), well in advance of the IATA deadline for the end of March next year. Passengers traveling from any one of the airline's 124 departure points only need to show an identity document when checking in for a flight. Customers can also now use their own computer to check in and select a seat from 30h before departure. Sep 12, 2007

Air France KLM

Linkoping is to be joined to Amsterdam with a twice-daily KLM flight from the start of the summer season next year. This makes KLM the first of the large international airlines to begin activities in Sweden outside the major metropolitan areas and offers an attractive link from UK airports. Air France KLM country manager Sweden, Anko van der Werff, said: "The Ostergotland area has long aspired to become Sweden's fourth metropolitan area and many national and international companies have a strong presence in this region. A Fokker 70 will be used on the route in a two-class layout, offering KLM Europe Select, and KLM economy. Sep 12, 2007

Condor Airlines

Condor Airlines of Germany will install a premium economy cabin in its nine Boeing 767-300ERs beginning in April. The new class will offer 35 seats. Condor is Lufthansa[sup.1]s charter carrier. Sep 10, 2007

SAS Scandinavian Airlines, Bombardier

SAS Scandinavian Airlines Bombardier DHC-8-Q400 was involved Sunday in an accident at Aalborg when the right main landing gear collapsed upon landing, breaking the propeller and sending it slicing into the cabin, according to reports. A fire in the right engine was extinguished and all 69 passengers and four crew were evacuated safely, the airline said, adding that five passengers were "lightly injured" during the procedure. SAS canceled flights to/from Aalborg and several to/from Copenhagen as a result. Yesterday it said it discussed the situation with Bombardier and that the manufacturer "confirmed that what happened in Aalborg has never occurred before with this aircraft type at an airline in the world." The carrier said it will be conducting "extraordinary checks" this week of the gear on its entire Q400 fleet. Sep 11, 2007
