Air France KLM may have to raise its fuel surcharge again to take into account rising oil prices, a senior executive of the European airline told Les Echos in an interview published on Wednesday. Austrian Airlines
Austrian Airlines will add three new destinations to its network this month as part of its Focus East strategy, which it credits with helping its return to profitability in 2007. The cities, Sochi and Nizhniy Novgorod in Russia and Baia Mare in Romania, bring to 48 the number of destinations in Central and Eastern Europe and the CIS served from Vienna. But Austrian Airlines still sees plenty of opportunity for growth, Executive VP Rudolf Mertl told journalists assembled in Vienna yesterday. The airline, which turns 50 in April, would like to add "3-5 destinations per year" in the region, he said. Apr 1, 2008

Austrian Airlines' smaller markets, 66% of that transfer traffic is coming from or going to a secondary destination. Only 15% of connections are between big gateways where competition is most intense. "We want to have the London-Odessa passenger," Mertl said. British Airways expects to operate a full schedule to and from London Heathrow's Terminal 5 Saturday and next week. It noted that the "impact was borne by the short-haul schedule, where there were 300 canceled flights, equating to 0.2 percentage points of capacity." Apr 4, 2008
British Airways, London Heathrow Airport
British Airways said it will continue canceling flights from London's Heathrow Airport through Friday. The cancellations are the result of a serious problem with the baggage system at the airport's newly opened Terminal 5. The problems have forced British Airways to cancel 300 flights since the terminal opened last week. Apr 2, 2008

CSA Czech Airlines
CSA Czech Airlines' summer schedule will include new services from Prague to Strasbourg (nine-times-weekly), Tbilisi (thrice-weekly) and Rostov-on-Don (thrice-weekly) beginning April 24. It also will launch thrice-weekly service to Damascus on April 30, twice-weekly to Almaty on May 1 and twice-weekly to Heraklion on May 30. L'Avion
L'Avion, the all-business class French airline, is increasing its flight frequency on its second aircraft, a Boeing 757-200. The airline, which already offered flights seven days a week, will offer an additional flight on Monday and Thursday beginning April 3, and also on Wednesday beginning May 18. Apr 1, 2008
S7 Airlines
S7 Airlines will add four A320s to its fleet during its summer schedule, which began yesterday. First already has been delivered and will begin flying from Moscow Domodedovo to Barnaul and Krasnodar this month. Others will fly from DME to Kemerovo, Sochi, Novosibirsk and Frankfurt and from Novosibirsk to Vladivostok and Beijing, where S7 will operate out of the new Terminal 3. Summer schedule also includes increased service from Omsk from which it will launch flights to Khudzhand, Dushanbe, St. Petersburg and Irkutsk. Mar 31, 2008
