BRIGADIER GENERAL CHARLES A. PIDDOCK

Retired July 31, 1962. Died Nov. 9, 1973.

Charles Albert Piddock was born in Saxton's River, Vt., in 1909 and graduated from the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, N.Y., in June 1932.

He was then commissioned as a second lieutenant of Field Artillery and served at installations in New York, Hawaii, Oklahoma and North Carolina until he attended Balloon School at Fort Bragg, N.C., in 1940. Later that year he was assigned to flight school at Gunter Field, Ala. He received his pilot's rating in May 1941 at Maxwell Field, Ala.

His next assignment was base operations officer, Army Air Base, New Orleans, La. Then in 1942 he became assistant chief of staff, A-3, 12th Air Support Command, North African Theater of Operations.

From September 1947 to June 1949, General Piddock attended the School of Business Administration at Harvard University, receiving his master's degree in Business Administration in June 1949.

General Piddock was then assigned as comptroller, Headquarters Sacramento Air Materiel Area, McClellan Air Force Base, Calif., in June 1949 and later deputy commander. In 1952 he was a student at the Industrial College of the Armed Forces in Washington, D.C., and then went to Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska, as commander, Alaska Air Force Depot until December 1954. In January 1955 he became deputy comptroller and later acting comptroller, Air Materiel Command, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. In January 1957 he was assigned as commander, Memphis Air Force Depot, an assignment he held until June 1958 when he assumed his present duties as assistant chief of staff, Materiel, Headquarters Pacific Air Forces, Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii.

His decorations include the Legion of Merit, Commendation Ribbon, American Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with Star, World War II Victory Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

Civilian organizations--American Institute of Management, Military Order of World Wars and Rotary.
