BRIGADIER GENERAL JOHN H. CHICK
Retired Aug. 31, 1964. Died Dec. 29, 1965.
John H. Chick was born in Alma, Mich., in 1913. He graduated from Greenbrier Military School at Lewisburg, W.Va., in 1933 and attended the University of Michigan.
He was first commissioned a second lieutenant in the Organized Reserve Corps in December, 1934. Later, he was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Air National Guard in November 1939. In August 1941, he was commissioned a first lieutenant in the Army of the United States. He was promoted to captain in April 1942; to major in August 1942; to lieutenant colonel in March 1944; to colonel in November 1948; and was promoted to brigadier general March 7, 1961. He has been director of personnel and support operations, Headquarters Air Force Logistics Command since Aug. 1, 1961.
General Chick served two tours of foreign service. The first tour, in the Pacific Southwest during World War II, was from October 1943, to February 1945. During this tour, General Chick, then major and lieutenant colonel, flew 62 combat missions for a total of 179 combat hours of flying. He flew P-40, A-20 and B-25 type aircraft while on this tour. The second tour of foreign service took him to France and Germany, between February 1950 and June 1953. In 1953, he was assigned as executive officer at Goodfellow Air Force Base, Texas. In August 1954 he assumed command of Greenville Air Force Base, Miss.
In February 1940, he was given the rating of pilot. In October 1940 he was rated an aircraft observer. He was rated a command pilot in February 1955.
