Chilean born musician Mariana Montalvo moved to Paris when Augusto Pinochet took power in a military coup. During the 1960s and 70s, Montalvo kept alive the South American music tradition of "nueva concion". She builds upon this tradition with her CD album Piel de accituna with an opening reggae track, and for one of the pieces (Encuentro) is joined by Congolese singer Kokua Kanza. Flawlessly recorded and confidently recommended, this World Village production is comprised of eleven performance pieces that include Sud' Americano (3:40); Mi Cancion (3:19); Ave de Paso (3:28); Piel de Aceituna (4:10); Cononzco la Azul Laguna (2:48); Homre Pequentito (3:08); La Cancion de Los Amantes (4:13); Credo (3:45); Ah Si Pudiese (3:21); Mal Que Mata (3:15); and the duet number, Encuentro (4:34).
