Random House Audio
1745 Broadway, New York NY 10019
Random House's latest arrivals are top picks for leisure listeners who want solid readers paired with good plots and details. Tami Hoag's Prior Bad Acts (0553712-56X, $29.95), for example, enjoys Erik Bergmann's excellent narrative style as it provides a rich thriller novel revolving around a terrible family murder. Two detectives find themselves hot on the trail of a dangerous suspect when a routine case turns complex and too many suspects evolve from the woodwork. The new Jonathan Kellerman Alex Delaware thriller Gone (0739309773, $26.95) enjoys a vivid reading by John Rubenstein whose Broadway background lends a dramatic aura to the latest story of acting students who vanish on the way home from a rehearsal and are rescued, only to have murder strike. A closed case leads Delaware and his cohort to nearly identical killings in a case which never ends. The nonfiction line is particularly inviting from Random, providing plenty of diverse listens. Cooks will appreciate Julia Child's My Life In France (0739325264, $27.95), collaboratively authored with Alex Prudhomme and read by Flo Galant Greenberg, comes to life to tell, in Julia's own words, of years ears in France and how she fell in love with French food. Her memoir offers insights not only on her life and its twining with the French, but French culture and character alike. Frances Mayes' A Year In The World (073932424, $29.95) is read by the author and provides a lovely survey of travel and the allure of Tuscany's neighbors. Using Tuscany as a bas, Mayes explores Europe, North Africa and the different worlds of offerings of different nations as she surveys each region's art, history, culture and contributions.
