The Great Shark Hunt is a DVD offering a candid and unique look at sharks. Long considered one of man's deadliest enemies, immortalized in classic Hollywood horror films such as "Jaws", the overlooked side of sharks includes their vital role in marine ecology, and how studies of their natural resistance to disease could help scientists develop cancer-fighting drugs. Shark populations have been in decline since the 1980's due to widespread overfishing, and the extreme demand for shark-fin soup in particular could yet spell the doom of this great and fierce predator. The Great Shark Hunt discusses an on-going campaign to promote voluntary tagging programs among commercial fishermen, and catch-and-release programs among sports fishermen. Deep-sea diving footage of sharks in action rounds out this engrossing, educational, and highly recommended documentary. 45 minutes
