KDDI, Fujitsu Developing Wireless LAN-equipped Mobile Phones, Revolutionizing Office Telephony Environment

JCN Newswires, March 14, 2006

Tokyo, Japan, Mar 13, 2006 - (JCN Newswire) - Fujitsu Limited and KDDI Corporation are pleased to announce plans to cooperate on a new range of mobile solutions built around the au E02SA, the new mobile handset with built-in wireless LAN designed for corporate use. Fujitsu and KDDI hope to start introducing new solutions, incorporating business IT systems and mobile telephony, from July of this year.

Various IT strategies currently employed to improve business efficiency include, for example, cost reduction measures such as reducing communication and operating costs. However, in addition to measures of this nature, increased mobile terminal use and terminal unification developments can revolutionize work styles and business processes, and contribute to corporate competitive advantage.

Through this co-operation, both Fujitsu and KDDI, who have proven track records in VoIP technology and corporate system constructions, aim to increase the use of wireless LAN au mobile phones in future corporate systems, and help revolutionize client work styles by actively expanding mobile solutions, thus enhancing value-add for their corporate clients.

The Fujitsu Approach

Using the "CL Series" IP telephony system and the "IP Pathfinder" to establish connections to wireless LAN terminals, Fujitsu successfully constructed the first multi-career wireless LAN dual terminal system in Japan. Applying its experience and success in constructing corporate IT and telephony systems, Fujitsu will continue to provide products and services in a timely fashion.

In December 2005, in response to the needs of clients on the ground, Fujitsu launched the "Office Innovation Model", an integrated IT telephone - IT system that can be constructed in a short period of time. Fujitsu is enlarging the mobile office model found in the "Office Innovation Model" for this new co-operation. In addition to the current wireless LAN dual terminals, KDDI's line of wireless LAN au mobile phones are also included, giving clients greater choice in selecting a terminal most suitable to their corporate needs.

Additionally, Fujitsu will develop and provide BREW(TM)* wireless LAN au mobile phones for KDDI.

The KDDI Approach

KDDI will continue to develop functionality in the E02SA, the wireless LAN au handset designed for corporate use. The E02SA can be used for making extension calls in the office as well as an au mobile phone outside, thus improving business efficiency for companies.

Additionally, KDDI will provide mobile phone and fixed line services.

Wireless LAN-equipped au Mobile Phones

KDDI's first wireless LAN-equipped mobile phone, the E02SA for au, can be used to make extension calls in addition to functioning as a mobile phone. This enables companies to use it for making internal calls in the office and as a normal mobile phone outside, thus improving business efficiency.

At KDDI, this system of using wireless LAN-equipped phones to provide mobile/internal solutions is called "Office Freedom." Fujitsu will continue to develop this solution as the official partner of Office Freedom.
