NEC Establishes New Structure to Strengthen System Integration/Software Business and R&D for Accelerated Execution of Growth Strategy

Tokyo, Japan, Mar 22, 2007 - (JCN Newswire) - Effective April 1, 2007, NEC Corporation (TSE: 6701) will establish a new organization structure to strengthen its system integration and software business and research and development capabilities toward accelerated execution of its growth strategy.
Outline of organization changes
1. Strengthening of system integration and software business
To strengthen its system integration and software business, NEC is merging the NES Solutions Group Business Unit and NE Software Development Group Business Unit to form a Systems Integration and Software Development Group Business Unit. The new business unit covers 12 software-related consolidated subsidiaries, including NEC Soft, Ltd., NEC System Technologies, Ltd., and NEC Communication Systems, Ltd. With a total of 17,000 system engineers and software development technicians, the new unit will promote growth of system integration/services and software development businesses in the area of IT/networks, and embedded solutions businesses, including the area of semiconductors, through agile allocation of resources realized by integrated business operation.
2. Strengthening of research and development capabilities
NEC will merge its Solutions Development Laboratories, which cultivates new business in the area of IT/network solutions, into its Central Research Laboratories, which develops advanced fundamental technologies. The structural change is aimed at accelerated creation of technological innovation vital to the rapid progress of current businesses and the creation of future business of the NEC Group. Through a unified structure, NEC expects to further strengthen the research and development capabilities of IT/network solutions and devices, from fundamental research to new business creation.
NEC will drive its research and development in line with the individual attributes of the three groups that form the new Central Research Laboratories. They are:
- Solution Platforms Research Group: research and development of service platforms, the foundation of solutions construction, and common platforms
- IT/NW System Platforms Research Group: research and development of IT/network system platforms, hardware packaging, and intellectual property core technologies that are the foundation of IT and network system platforms and semiconductor devices
- Materials and Process Research Group: research and development of new function/new concept devices and device process technologies
