Toyota Announces Continued Support for Technical Training Center in China

Tokyo, Sept 19, 2008 - (JCN Newswire) - TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION (TMC) announced today that it has reached an agreement with the Technical Training Center of Toyota Jin Bei of China Automotive Industry in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, China, to extend TMC support for another three years.

To formalize the agreement, TMC and the training center held a signing ceremony in Shenyang, attended by approximately 120 people, including Shenyang City Deputy Mayor Qi Ming, Japan's consul general in Shenyang Morio Matsumoto as well as the center's managers, instructors and students. At the ceremony, TMC Managing Officer Yuzo Ushiyama said, "Toyota has always believed that 'monozukuri*1' is about 'developing people'. We remain committed to helping people grow and develop through monozukuri."

Under the agreement, which forms the basis of TMC's seventh Technical Assistance Plan for the center, TMC will provide approximately 47 million yen over the next three years, which the center will use to enrich and strengthen its training programs, including enabling exceptional trainers and students to receive further training in Japan. The center will also use the funds to add research and training equipment, and to expand the scope of scholarships, among other efforts.

The center was established in September 1990 by Shenyang Jin Bei Automotive Industry Corporation Ltd. and TMC, with counsel from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers*2. The center's aim is to cultivate highly trained specialists who can play leading roles in automobile production in China. As of 2008, the center has produced more than 11,000 graduates who are now active in the Chinese automotive industry.

TMC and its affiliates are committed to carrying out social contribution activities throughout the world, with a focus on human-resource development, environmental protection and traffic safety.

In China, in addition to supporting the training center, TMC has established the Toyota Study Assistance Fund and a research center in collaboration with the School of Public Policy & Management at Tsinghua University. It has implemented afforestation programs to combat desertification in Hebei Province and created the Toyota Environmental Protection Aid Program for China's Youth, offering support to local environmental protection activities. And in the area of traffic safety, TMC is conducting safe-driving events for the general public in collaboration with the Chinese Ministry of Public Security.

Through its social contribution activities, TMC aims to be a good corporate citizen and plans to continue actively contributing to the development of Chinese society.
